SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2017

THE STEVE MORRISON TRIO

with DAVE GREEN & STEVE BROWN – the cream of jazz rhythm sections

"You better move over to where I am at in America, man. I could find you  some gigs tomorrow" …..George Benson

“Beautiful tone, he was great, he was really, really great. He has got stage presence, he’s got star quality”  ……Tony Visconti

Steve Morrison is a remarkable guitarist and melodic songwriter who was finalist in the 2016 Sky Arts Guitar Star series on TV . He is one of the very few guitarists who has mastered the playing of the bass line with his thumb whilst using his other digits for the melody line – and he really swings with vocals reminiscent of JJ Cale. In another world he would truly be a legend.

This gig promises to be the debut of one of the greatest guitar trios on the planet!

FRIDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER 2017

GORDON SMITH

FEATURING ALAN GLEN

Gordon Smith was once described by the late John Peel as the ‘foremost white blues guitarist in the world” which is a hefty epithet to carry around and potentially embarrassing to such a modest character as Gordon - but there is no doubt that he is a great blues guitarist with an authentic blues voice which caught the attention of the legendary Blue Horizon label in the early 1960s.

He displays the influences of the blues greats – Rev Gary Davis, Robert Johnson, Lightning Hopkins, Sleepy John Estes and most obviously the great Lonnie Johnson.

Gordon Smith is joined by Alan Glen on harmonica, Jim Mercer on double bass and Bob Haddrell on piano – apart from the pianist, the same stellar cast as on the acclaimed live limited edition album recorded at Brooks Blues Bar in February 2011which will be available (£10) at the gig.

FRIDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2017

DAVE PEABODY & REGINA MUDRICH (GDR)

(with special guest TIM PENN)

“A champion of the genre for almost half a century… if there was any justice the man would be a national treasure” (Acoustic Magazine)

“Few musicians of any kind are popular and resilient enough to last as long as Dave Peabody, who is still performing Right Now Blues! (Blues Blast Magazine)

“… listen to ‘West Indies Blues’ for how well he and the violinist work together – but there are no performances less than excellent on the admirable release.” (Blues In Britain Magazine)

“Peabody embodies the global success of African American culture which has broken all barriers to reach the best concert halls and clubs of the world.” (Living Blues Magazine, USA)

Brooks Blues Bar is delighted to welcome back the trio of guitarist/vocalist Dave Peabody, violinist Regina Mudrich, and pianist Tim Penn who delighted Brooks Blues Bar audiences with their debut appearance in 2015.

Dave Peabody knows a thing or two about the blues, having played guitar and toured with a host of American bluesmen such as Mississippi Delta legend David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, Grammy award winning harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite, and Cincinnati boogie and blues pianist Big Joe Duskin. Dave has perfected his craft with over fifty years of live performances and appearances on over forty albums and CDs and has been voted UK Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year three times. He was in Germany in 2015, recording his latest album when, by chance, he met Regina who so impressed him with her musical skills that he invited her to play on the new album “Right Now Blues”, resulting in universal great reviews.

Regina Mudrich studied classical violin for 9 years at the University of Music “Franz Liszt” in Weimar, GDR. Born in East Germany, she currently lives in Bremen, West Germany. Between 2003 and 2008 Regina performed, and recorded 2 CDs, with the Rialto String Quartet (one which was recorded at the Berlin Philharmonic). Since 2008 she has been an event manager at Gewoelbe, Vegesack, Bremen, an intimate venue that attracts a variety of international artists, many of whom she has joined on stage. During the last year Regina has contributed her violin to two new albums, one by German guitarist Thomas Schleiken and the other by New Orleans based singer/songwriter Todd Day Wait.

Brooks Blues Bar regular, Tim Penn is one of the most ‘in demand’ keyboard players on the scene. Going back to the 1970s, he was a member of Dorris Henderson’s Eclection and also the Kevin Coyne band alongside Andy Summers (The Police) and Gordon Smith. He currently holds down the piano chair with the swing-blues band, The Cadillac Kings as well as his own band, The Second Line. His influences range from stride and barrelhouse piano styles of the 1920s, through to the great New Orleans piano players like Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, and Dr. John.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to catch this international trio of great musician play their eclectic mix of blues, boogie, ragtime and jazz.
